Xiaomi bursts age-old myth around toothpaste healing cracked screen
Xiaomi took it to YouTube where it shared a video giving a peek into how cracked screens ‘cannot’ be healed or fixed using toothpaste. The Shorts posted by Xiaomi shows the ‘before’ and ‘after’ of cracked smartphone displays and how the scratches or the cracks don’t fade away. A popular myth has been doing the rounds of the internet for ages stating that if you use toothpaste on a cracked or scratched display, it will become as smooth as new. Xiaomi has burst the myth showing how the pro tip just doesn’t work. In fact, the abrasive components in toothpaste such as sodium bicarbonate will potentially render the screen to further damage. For those who might not have seen the scratches initially, it is because it happens over time and the abrasion continually causes more damage to the screen. Of course, using toothpaste does make the display vibrant, it has no change in the scratches and cracks whatsoever. The abrasive component will destroy the oleophobic resistance that prevents fingerprints and stains from sticking to the surface. Essentially, using toothpaste on a cracked screen is damaging even if you can’t see it initially. It tends to get serious over time and it is something you must avoid. If your phone’s screen is cracked, it’s time to get a replacement rather than sticking to such myths.
