This would allow users to write or share their files if working on multiple devices, unlike the current workarounds of creating a group with none but you. This support was spotted in the latest beta for WhatsApp on Android, so it may come soon to all.
WhatsApp Self Messaging
While we predominantly use WhatsApp for communicating with others, some use it for writing notes to themselves, keeping a grocery list, and saving important links. Though we have dedicated note-taking apps for this purpose, it’s the main platform we always try to use it for anything. Observing this need, WhatsApp is testing a self messaging support on its Android app, as spotted by WaBetaInfo in the beta version 2.22.24.2. As per it, some WhatsApp beta testers are seeing a new option called “Message yourself” in their chats list – opened through the floating action button (FAB) from the lower-right corner of the WhatsApp home screen. This option is also labeled as “Me (You)” and opens an empty chat is initiated. Similar to a two-way conversation panel, you can send all the text, links, and media in it. The new option of messaging yourself sits at the top of the chat list, letting you easily access it whenever needed. This is much better than what we’re having now – creating a group with none but you or using the Click to Message link option. Since these function as workarounds, a clear and official feature for saving notes is comparatively better. Though this support was spotted in the Android beta for some users, WhatsApp may soon bring it to the iOS client too, and for the general public.
