Pixel Fold could unfold in 2022 with a 12.2MP camera

9to5Google states the Pixel Fold is slated to come in 2022 and it won’t be wielding a flashy camera setup like the Pixel 6 series. Upon digging through the latest Google Camera app’s APK files, folks at the 9to5Google have found a reference to “isPixel2022Foldable“. It also tells that the forthcoming Pixel Fold codenamed “Pipit” will be employing the same 12.2MP Sony IMX363 sensor that’s been found within Pixel 3 to Pixel 5. We are not really sure how this would be intended for use. Anyways, moving to the selfie department, the Pixel Fold is said to sport two 8MP Sony IMX355 snappers. Notably, one of these is tagged “inner” while the other one is “outer.” Again, can’t be sure if that inner selfie camera would be a punch hole-based or under-display implementation like on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G (review). Either way, Google would be using its computational work to enhance the camera results. Also, the reason why Pixel Fold’s camera output might not be bad even though the camera hardware is inferior compared to the Pixel 6 lineup. It is understandable too since a larger sensor would make the device thicker, which in turn proves detrimental to the whole foldable form factor. Now, the software in use would be Android 12L, which is a custom version of Android for tablets and foldable announced recently. Even though Google hasn’t revealed the Android 12L launch date, but it is expected to be out by March 2022, which should fall in line with the Pixel Fold’s release. But nothing’s confirmed yet and so take the aforementioned details as such. Source: 1, 2
