Better Keep Waiting!
Cyberpunk 2077, the upcoming action RPG game featuring Keanu Reeves, is on the hot list this month. No wonder if you’re getting this game as a gift from your mates this Christmas, but wonder if you’re getting it for free from someone unknown. As Kaspersky reported, a new Cyberpunk 2077 scam is luring players with free downloads for stealing data. There are several websites spotted offering free downloads of this game. And the one documented by Kaspersky goes like this; It starts with a site with rich graphics of Cyberpunk 2077, luring the visitor to click on the free download button.
And when clicked, it downloads an executable file that seems to be a game installer. When opened, it has options like Play, Install, Language, Options, Support, and Exit. Out of these, only the Install, Support, and Exit were active, whereas the Support button does nothing. After some time, it pop-ups asking for a license key to activate the game, which is, of course, hasn’t been provided to the user anywhere. Well, it’s accompanied by a “Get License Key” button for continuing the scam.
Clicking on it takes a website that asks users to choose between a survey or a giveaway contest to get the license key. Either of them takes to a webpage asking for details like email ID, phone number, and others. While it does provide a license key, after all, it’s still a scam since entering it opens an error for missing DLL. It has a download button to get the missing DLL, which takes to another survey asking for more details. After all, it offers no fruits at the end, but just stealing the data to spam later. It’s even better than scammers aren’t asking for money for the license key, which impatient users may pay to get the game anyway.
